As you may have heard, the Borough Commander of Southwark Police has just retired. The Metropolitan Police contacted me to ask for my views on the qualities which I would like to see in our new Borough Commander and the priorities he or she should have. Of course, I shared my thoughts with them.
I am, however, very keen for the new person in charge of policing in Southwark to have the best possible understanding of the views of our diverse community and to appreciate how people want the police to work on our local streets and estates. Of course, everybody wants the police to use their time effectively to keep order and to prevent crime. I plan to meet with the new Borough Commander shortly after their appointment. I am, therefore, very interested in what you think the priorities for Southwark police should be so that I can feed in these views to our new commander as early as possible.
Tackling crime and the fear of crime has always been one of my top priorities as the local Member of Parliament. I have always believed that it is really important that all the community work together to address these issues. I am very keen to have your input. I hope that you will take a few minutes to complete my online survey.
I am also always very happy to help local residents whenever I can. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require any help with any matters for which I, as your local Member of Parliament, have responsibility.
