
Simon is the current Liberal Democrat Federal Party President. He was first elected as Party president in the summer of 2004 in a ballot of all party members where he won over 60% of the votes. He took up this office, which is the principal public representative of the Party in Great Britain, at the Federal Conference in September 2004. Simon was elected, unopposed, for a second term in 2006. His current and last term of office is due to end 31st December 2008. Amongst other responsibilities, the President is responsible for chairing the Federal Executive of the Party.
