Thank you for signing the Southwark Liberal Democrat petition calling on the Mayor of London and Transport for London (TfL) to take urgent action to improve road safety at the junction of Tower Bridge Road and Abbey Street.

As you may be aware, the Mayor and TfL have been frustratingly slow in taking any concrete action on this matter. Despite the Mayor's assurances in February that the junction of Tower Bridge Road and Abbey Street would be prioritised for immediate investigation, the outcomes of this investigation have still not been published. The Mayor also promised that TfL would investigate whether Cyclist Advanced Stop Lines could be installed prior to all road work stopping due to the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Again, we are still waiting to hear the results of this investigation.

My Liberal Democrat colleagues on the GLA and Southwark council and I have been calling on the Mayor and TfL to do a great deal more and to do it urgently. I have now written again to Peter Hendy, Commissioner for Transport for London, to ask when TfL will publish their review of the junction and to request that whatever work can be done to improve safety at the junction before the Olympic and Paralympic Games is done.

You can download a copy of the letter here.

Thank you again for your interest in this important issue.

If you are a resident of the Bermondsey and Old Southwark constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
