The Health Secretary has clearly listened to the strong voice of the people of south east London and their elected representatives.
Keeping an Accident and Emergency Department at Lewisham Hospital is a major success after the Administrator recommended its closure. The details of exactly which cases continue to come to Lewisham and assurances that it will be open for blue light admissions now need to be made clear.
And if the A&E department remains at Lewisham, then the case for keeping maternity services in Lewisham is also stronger not weaker.
I will continue to argue that no changes in NHS services in Lewisham should go ahead unless and until local GPs agree that those changes will improve NHS services for their patients.
