Last Saturday (30th June) Simon Hughes, the MP for Bermondsey and Old Southwark, joined a charity walk from Blackheath to Bermondsey to help raise money for the two children of a local girl Holly Eldridge, who sadly passed away shortly after giving birth last year.
Over 200 people took part in the 5.2 mile walk, raising an estimated £5000 in total, which will now be put into a trust fund for Holly's children, aged one and two.
One of Holly's friends, Leyla Sadrettin, who completed the walk in 6 inch high heels and fairy costume said afterwards:
"It was such a nice day for all involved - even the sun came out. I'd like to thank Simon for joining the walk, but most of all I'd like to thank the public who were so generous with their donations."
Simon Hughes said:
"It was great to see so many people on the walk. It was an opportunity to celebrate Holly's life as well as raise money to ensure her children will be looked after financially. Every penny raised will help achieve that aim."
Anyone who would like to make a donation should send it to the Albin Dyer Foundation at F A Albin & Sons Limited, Arthur Stanley House, 52 Culling Road, London SE16 2TN, and clearly mark it 'Walk for Holly'.
