Following his enquiries to the Commissioner of Transport for London (TfL), Simon Hughes MP has received assurances that the Barclay's Cycle Hire scheme could be extended south east along the Thames.
In April, Simon wrote to TfL to express his disappointment that the recent expansion of the Barclay's Cycle Hire scheme does not include more of his constituency and to ask if Rotherhithe and Surrey Docks are likely to be included in any future expansion.
Simon said:
"In response to my enquiries, I have been informed that TfL sees no technical or geographical barriers to expanding the popular cycle hire scheme into Rotherhithe and Surrey Docks. My Liberal Democrat colleagues on the GLA and Southwark council will therefore continue to do all that we can to ensure that any future expansion of the cycle scheme includes both Rotherhithe and Surrey Docks and any other part of my constituency where there is a demand for the scheme."
