Simon Hughes, MP for Bermondsey and Old Southwark, has received assurances from Southwark council that the Open Door Day Centre on Jamaica Road will stay open.
Following concerns raised by local residents who had heard that the day centre was to close, Simon Hughes MP sought assurances from the council that this important community organisation would not be lost.
Speaking today, Simon said:
"I have now received assurances from the Strategic Director of Health and Community Services for Southwark Council that there are no proposals to close the Open Door Day Centre on Jamaica Road.
I was alarmed to hear rumours that the day centre might close and I am therefore extremely relieved that these concerns have been allayed. The day centre is a life line for many of my constituents and I am pleased that it will remain open and accessible for all those who depend on the services it provides."
