Last Thursday 8th December, Simon Hughes MP opened the Spa medical centre on Old Jamaica Road in Bermondsey. Simon was invited by Southwark Primary Care Trust to cut the ribbon to open the new centre in his constituency of Bermondsey and Old Southwark.
The event gave local residents the opportunity to meet the GP practice team and check out all the new facilities. The Health visitors, midwives and speech and language therapy teams from Guys and St Thomas' Community Health Services were on hand to meet local residents and other members of the public.
NHS Southwark Patient and Liaison Service (PALS) were also available to answer questions from the public, and a free NHS health check was also on offer.
Simon said:
"I'm very pleased to see a new medical centre open in Bermondsey, specifically to carry on the tradition of our most famous local MP, Dr Alfred Salter. Special occasions like these are very important in promoting awareness of all the types of medical services available to the local community. It is essential that all our local communities and our local health services build and maintain the strongest possible relationships."
