The opening today of the southern entrance to Blackfriars Train Station has been celebrated by Caroline Pidgeon, leader of the Liberal Democrat London Assembly Group along with the local MP Simon Hughes and the ward councillor Geoffrey Thornton.
Earlier today they attended the new southern entrance to the station to see at first hand the latest developments at the rebuilt station, which is the first station built with access from the south bank of the River Thames for 120 years.
As well as admiring the new entrance facilities they also checked that Network Rail had delivered on its pledge to provide new signage on the relevant platforms stating "London Blackfriars - for Bankside and South Bank." The new signage has come about following a long campaign led by Caroline Pidgeon and Simon Hughes MP.
Following the visit Caroline Pidgeon said:
"It is wonderful to see the southern entrance to Blackfriars Train Station now open to the public.
"We might be a few months away from the new train station being fully completed but this is a major milestone and great news for Bankside and the South Bank."
Simon Hughes MP further commented:
"After a long campaign I am delighted to see the new signage on the platform recognising that the station serves both the south as well the north of the Thames. This signage will ensure far more people are aware of the easy access via the station to a wide range of amazing venues in the Bankside area, from the Globe Theatre to the Tate Modern."
