It is very difficult to imagine public life in London without Peter Moore. Peter was such a large part of so many major occasions - and known to so many. He was known to hundreds if not thousands personally and tens of thousands by his activities and his reputation.
Peter Moore in spite of his very public life was a very modest man who lived a very modest lifestyle. But he was also paradoxically a very proud man - proud of London, proud of the people of London and proud or promoting London. Peter took real pride in our capital city, in it's boroughs and in it's communities. And without being divisive I think he had a special affection for those of us who shared with him a south London home.
Peter Moore was concerned, compassionate and kind as well as very intelligent and very well informed. Peter was great for news - probably the best unofficial news agency London had - and was even greater for gossip!
Some people become what they are because of the job that they do. Peter made the job he did what it was.
Peter Moore made the job of town crier his very own in his larger than life way. Peter added to the history, character and fun of London. London is the poorer for his passing. But London has been the richer for his rich and unique contribution - and for the energy and enthusiasm with which he made it right until the end.
