Simon Hughes, MP for North Southwark and Bermondsey, has announced the timetable for the final stages of preparation of his Leasehold Reform Bill, which he will propose for Second Reading in the House of Commons on 22nd February.
Mr Hughes has already received many ideas from local residents who are Southwark Council and City of London Corporation leaseholders. These have come in response to the call for suggestions for changes in the law which Simon Hughes made after he came in the top 20 places in the ballot for MPs to introduce their own legislation - which gave him the chance of introducing a bill this month.
Mr Hughes needs any remaining ideas at the latest by Monday 11th February because the final form of his bill will be going to the printers by the end of next week and be published a few days before it is listed for debate in the Commons.
''It is clear from all my work as the local MP, representing as many council leaseholders as any MP in the country, that the current law does not work as well as it should. I hope that anybody who hasn't yet given me their view as to how the law should be changed should let me know by fax or email in the last few days before the final shape of the bill is decided. The more simple and the more clear the ideas are for changing the law the better! Leaseholders - please have your say now''.
People interested should, if possible, look at Simon Hughes' website at http://www.simonhughes.org.uk/pages/leaseholdreform.html. Simon Hughes' email address is simon@simonhughes.org.uk and his fax number is 02072196567. The deadline is noon on Monday February 11th.
