Holocaust Memorial Day, House of Commons Commemoration event - Monday 21st January 2008

Simon Hughes MP, President of the Liberal Democrats joined other parliamentary colleagues and many others at the House of Commons Commemoration event for Holocaust Memorial Day, held in Westminster on Monday 21st January. The event, organised by the Holocaust Educational Trust, heard speakers who were survivors of the Holocaust of the Second World War and of the current genocide in Darfur.

After the event, Simon Hughes said:

''I welcome the national commemoration of Holocaust Memorial Day which is now an important part of the civil and political calendar in the United Kingdom. It is vital that people of all generations remember the tragedies of Holocaust's past, the reality of genocide present and the risk of ethnic cleansing in the future. We all have the responsibility not just to remember but to do all we can to prevent such horrors occurring again''.

If you are a resident of the Bermondsey and Old Southwark constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
