Simon Hughes made his now traditional visit to join pensioners who are regulars at the Colombo Street Community Centre at Blackfriars at their New Year's dinner dance on Friday 18th January 2008.
After the event, Simon Hughes said:
'I was very grateful to be invited again to this important annual social event in SE1. Colombo Street is a great venue for activities for people of all ages and all those present at the New Year's Pensioners Party were full of praise for the new centre manager, Ricky Blackman who took up his post last year. Centre staff and many volunteers combined to give about 100 local residents, excellent food and drink and a live band which meant that most people danced happily for many hours during the evening.
'This year I was only able to make a relatively short visit - but appreciated the warmth of the reception, the food and the excellent entertainment. I'm sure everybody went home in good spirits. And to those who hadn't previously heard of, our joined Colombo Street, now is the time to honour that New Year's resolution and sign up for dance or sport or any other of their activities.
