Responding to the publication of the Legal Services Bill today, Liberal Democrat Shadow Constitutional Affairs Secretary, Simon Hughes MP said:
"The Legal Services Bill is a welcome chance to improve legal services across England and Wales. In particular, the separation of regulation and representation is a big step forward.
"But the danger of a new legal order is that the public loses established community based lawyers, and is given large and impersonal corporate legal service firms instead. This would risk damaging valued existing relationships between lawyers and their local clients.
"Liberal Democrats will work to ensure good local legal services are available to all."
